The use of automation and Artificial Intelligence in laboratories
The healthcare marketplace is constantly changing. Laboratories also need to constantly upgrade their equipment and resources in order to remain efficient and competitive. The optimal solution includes automation combined with expertise as the prominent feature of a laboratory. The combination provides an integrated approach which ultimately facilitates the management of the workflow and increases the productivity.
Realizing this concept means that in a specially designed laboratory area, a number of robotic systems (biochemical - immunological diagnostic analyzers) with digital data processing (specialized software for data management) and fully automated methods perform all the necessary procedures and produce valid and reliable test results in a very short time.
As the industry is becoming more data-driven, the huge amount of data is a major challenge. Creating automated workflows can enhance laboratory operations and reduce human errors considerably. Bar coded labelling of the biological material - from the moment of receiving it from the patient until the delivery of the result - in combination with a completely automated system (GLP system) can almost eliminate human mistakes as there is no human interventions in procedures as the titration, identification, preparation, transportation, or removal and storage under appropriate conditions, thus offering the most reliable laboratory test result.
GLP system uses intelligent car (unique sample carrier) technology combined with smart software infrastructure ensuring that the track is never down. Every sample is carried by the carriers, which guarantees that if a sample fails, then this affects the individual sample only, without modifying the whole analytical process, which continues as normal. The smart software optimizes workflow of samples, reducing turnaround times, based on efficiency and productivity. There are certain benefits to this process which could be summarized below:
• More reliable results
• Higher speed of results’ delivery
• Validity
• Elimination of errors
An additional innovation is the application of artificial intelligence (A.I.) in the processing of samples, with factorization of millions of parameters, correct identification of results and very high validity.
The use of new technologies enables the scientific staff to devote much more quality time to each patient individually, monitor the workflow and ensure high quality laboratory diagnostics.
